About Me

Hello, my name is Trevor Johnson and I'm excited to meet you and your student! To answer your question yes, I do have a thing for lizards. Tad Cooper is my tutoring assistant but doesn't provide much help.

My History

The journey to becoming an educator has been interesting and may sound similar to many of your student's. I started in public school going from kindergarten through to 5th grade. During this time, I struggled with school. I had trouble focusing, turning in work and I was behind in reading and had trouble writing, and in particular spelling. It was during this time that my teacher speculated that I may have dyslexia which was affecting my academics.

This was a concern to my parents.  After researching dyslexia, they decided to pull me out of school and homeschool me so that they could focus on my education and ensure that I would not be left behind or lose confidence in myself. I continued homeschooling until I graduated from high school. It was while I was in high school that all my parents' hard work paid off and I was finally able to make sense of school and developed a passion for reading, history, science and math. When I graduated high school, I was confident in my abilities and went to Palomar Community College and graduated in two years with an AA then transferred to Cal State San Marcos and graduated with honors two years later. I then went to Texas to pursue higher education in the hopes of teaching adults.

I Found My Passion For Teaching

While there, I realized that I did not have a passion for teaching adults. I came back to California and started substitute teaching for Temecula Unified School District. It was during this time that I found my passion for teaching the primary grade levels, more importantly helping students gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. I then started attending Azusa Pacific for a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and received my Master’s in Education Technology. During my time at APU, and as I continued substitute teaching and tutoring, I have honed my craft of teaching and working with individual students so that they can learn and be confident in what they know.

My passion is helping students meet their full potential by building up their confidence and helping foster a desire to learn. Along with helping encourage your student, I will help them in their learning. I have been helping students with their reading, writing, math, test skills, and homework for the past several years. I focus on helping students with their current school work and any learning gaps that they may have.

What Me On Your Team Looks Like

Tutoring with me is designed to fit your student’s individual needs. If your student needs help with homework then we will work on homework and strengthen the skills your student is learning in class. If your student is struggling with other skills then we will focus on those until your student has mastered them. I establish a positive learning environment where your student is free to learn without any judgment where they are challenged to grow. When tutoring with me I encourage parent’s input and we work as a team to achieve your students learning goals and help provide suggestions to help your student at home.
